4 Ways to Avoid Burnout at Work

Have you experienced low quality job performance, anxiety, stress, exhaustion, decline of health or felt “on edge” recently? These are all signs of burnout. If any of these pertain to your current work situation, do not fear! Here’s 4 tips to get you out of your current funk and reconnect you with your super star self!

Open Communication

Keeping an open line of communication between you and your manager is crucial to preventing workplace burnout. Don’t take this as a means to complain but use it as a tool to learn and to grow. Share with them what motivates you and how they can help you succeed. If something is not working, brainstorm a few ways that would help your situation improve; then present your findings. And remember, if you don’t ask, you’ll never know. Don’t be afraid to ask questions!

Say No

Understand your responsibilities. If you are being asked to do something outside of your realm, don’t hesitate to say no. Even if it’s within your skill set, don’t be afraid to speak up! Your employer will respect the communication if you can politely relay that your plate is full and your workload is at its limit.

Make Time for You

Whether it’s buying a new outfit, going fishing, getting your haircut or working out, find time each week to do something for yourself. Making time for you can clear the mind and relieve anxiety, help you gather your thoughts, encourage you to stay focused and so much more.

Don’t Quit Just Yet

Don’t rush into quick decisions that you may regret later. Consider your options and ask for help. Searching for a new job is okay and sometimes the best/only way to alleviate the stress. Do remember to thoughtfully search out your options in order not to put yourself in a situation that is worse than what you’re already in.

Don’t let workplace burnout creep up on you. Use your mind as a tool to make smart choices and turn your negative situation around for the better.
